The humidity of summer is gone, and the temperatures these autumn days are so comfortable! On some of the rainy days we had this week I spent a lot of time in the kitchen, baking blueberry-banana muffins and brownies, as well as a delicious meat, veggie and pasta soup. 🤤

Fall Planting, Visitors from USA, & Seasonal Cuisine! 🍂

I planted six broccoli starts this week, hoping the bugs don’t devour them like they did my Swiss chard. The other starts are surviving well after a dusting of diatomaceous earth (DE). The jalapeños are doing well, except for one plant that I harvested the fruit from so they don’t go to waste. And I added fresh goya-bitter melon and eggplant to a leg-of-lamb stir fry that turned out deliciously good! 🤤

Autumn Is Also A Growing Season

Autumn is a time to shift from growing spring and summer veggies to winter and spring crops. My cabbages, turnips and kabocha pumpkin are doing well. I also bought more lemon and mikan trees, plus some broccoli starts. And this week I made my version of eggplant parmesan.

Good day everyone! I’ve received a few messages recently that some of you haven’t been receiving notifications of my posts. I’ve spoken to YouTube Creator Support and they’ve provided some solutions:

Problems with notifications? The common reasons why a subscriber will not receive notifications.
1. They are not actually subscribed to your channel, but are confused by “Recommended video” notifications.
2. Their bell icon setting is set to “personalized” rather than “all” notifications. This resets if they unsubscribe and resubscribe.
3. Their greater YouTube notification settings are set to “None” for channel notifications.
4. They aren’t logged in.
5. Their device level notification settings are overriding their YouTube settings
Another reasons viewers may not be receiving notifications.
1. They already received the maximum number of notifications from your channel that day.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

The summer garden is winding down, but the autumn plantings are growing well. It was a very strange growing season from spring this year as some things such as zucchini didn’t do so well. Still, the jalapeños and kabocha squash seem to be doing well.

Looking Forward to Autumn

With just a week left before the official start of autumn, I’m nurturing the new plants and taking care of the mature ones. Here in my area of Japan we won’t see or feel the change of seasons until late October-early November. But hopefully the temperature will fall soon; it’s been very hot and humid this year because of a very active sun. ☀️

Preserving Nature in Kamakura, Japan 🇯🇵

There is a grassroots effort here in Kamakura to preserve an area in a protected zone from unwanted construction that could spoil the natural environment and beautiful view overlooking Mt. Fuji. Also, the autumn garden is shaping up, and I made a delicious dish of roasted chicken & potatoes. And very soon I'll start canning! 🤤🤩🐶

Weathering Another Typhoon 🌀🤩🐶

This week we were visited by Typhoon Shanshan. It didn’t cause any damage at my place, but southwestern Japan wasn’t so lucky. My autumn & winter starts are doing well, but the UFO squash didn’t make it; something got to them in the lower garden. Because of the rain I spent a lot of time in the kitchen making delicious treats.

Prepping the Fall Garden

Good day everyone! I’ve received a few messages recently that some of you haven’t been receiving notifications of my posts. I’ve spoken to YouTube Creator Support and they’ve provided some solutions:

Problems with notifications? The common reasons why a subscriber will not receive notifications.
1. They are not actually subscribed to your channel, but are confused by “Recommended video” notifications.
2. Their bell icon setting is set to “personalized” rather than “all” notifications. This resets if they unsubscribe and resubscribe.
3. Their greater YouTube notification settings are set to “None” for channel notifications.
4. They aren’t logged in.
5. Their device level notification settings are overriding their YouTube settings
Another reasons viewers may not be receiving notifications.
1. They already received the maximum number of notifications from your channel that day.

Garden Preps For Autumn! 🤩🐶

Well, here we are in mid-summer and it's time to seriously think about planning the autumn and fall garden. I’ve done some weeding to give the pineapples a breather. The tomatoes are still ripening, especially the succession planting of volunteers. And the cucumbers are still trying to grow. All in all, a good summer, despite the high humidity during mid-day.

2. Their bell icon setting is set to “personalized” rather than “all” notifications. This resets if they unsubscribe and resubscribe.

Spring is definitely in the air! Some cherry trees are in full bloom, the Japanese Bush Warblers (Uguisu) have returned with their pretty songs. I gone out and bought a bunch of new garden supplies, a new grow tower and astroturf for the lower garden walkway. I’ve also bought some new cookware and have added a new twist to Haru-chan’s homemade dog food: shredded carrots. 🐶🤩👍🏾

Happy Birthday, Haru-chan! 🐶🤩

Haru’s birthday was earlier in the week. She’s one-year-old now. Come late March, we’ll have spent one year together. I had a critter-thief 🐿️ raid my low tunnel and devour one and a half broccoli 🥦 plants. It/they left the cabbages 🥬 alone for now. I also lost some cherry trees on the side of my house. They had to be cut down as they were a threat to my house in high winds. And I also harvested some Natsu Mikan, summer mikan oranges!🐶🤩👍🏾

Problems with notifications? The common reasons why a subscriber will not receive notifications.
1. They are not actually subscribed to your channel, but are confused by “Recommended video” notifications.
2. Their bell icon setting is set to “personalized” rather than “all” notifications. This resets if they unsubscribe and resubscribe.
3. Their greater YouTube notification settings are set to “None” for channel notifications.
4. They aren’t logged in.

Well, here we are in early December! My, how time flies. Thankfully, the garden is still going strong as I make the transition from warm-to-cold weather plants. I’m also spending more time in the kitchen, cooking and baking. Haru-chan will be 11 months old this month-one year in January!🐶🤩👍🏾

I'm Still Getting Crops in October! 🤩🐶

Good day! I'm still harvesting okra, and I should be getting another late crop of tomatoes in a few days. They've taken off again with surprising growth! Haru-chan is doing well; she's in the midst of her first menstruation. She's handling it well (as I am, too! 😅🐶). 🤩🐶👍🏾
