Gaming is getting more expensive, AAA games are costing more than ever to make, console and subscription prices continue to rise, and gamers are increasingly being asked to pay more while getting fewer ownership options.

So what happens next?

I recently talked about why I think gamers are getting screwed by the direction the industry is heading, but there's a bigger question: how long can the current AAA gaming model actually continue like this?

Huge development budgets, longer development cycles, rising hardware costs, more expensive games, subscription increases and the push toward digital-only gaming are all happening at the same time.

I don't think we're heading toward another video game crash like 1983. I think something else may happen first: the AAA business model is going to have to change.

Because gamers aren't an infinite ATM.

In this video I break down why AAA gaming is becoming so expensive, why consumers keep getting handed the bill, why paying more while owning less isn't sustainable, and what I think eventually has to change.

Sony Might Be Realizing They SCREWED UP Killing Physical Games

Sony may be starting to realize that killing physical PlayStation games was a bigger mistake than they expected.

Sony has already announced plans to end physical production for new PlayStation releases beginning in 2028, but a recent report claims the company has been asking developers about potential problems surrounding the move away from physical games.

And that raises a pretty obvious question:
If Sony is so confident that physical games don't matter anymore, why are they reportedly asking about the consequences of getting rid of them?

This isn't about pretending digital games aren't popular. They obviously are.

The problem is Sony taking away the choice completely.
Physical games still matter for ownership, used games, lending, resale, preservation and simply giving customers another way to buy their games.

And if PlayStation 6 ends up being completely digital-only, I've already made my decision.

No physical option? No PS6 for me.

But if Sony changes course and keeps physical games alive, I'll absolutely give them credit for it.

After years of 343 Industries / Halo Studios struggling to get Halo back on track, Xbox is making one of the biggest changes this franchise has seen in years. The next Halo game is being developed by a new purpose-built team at Activision, while Halo Studios remains focused on supporting the Halo games already on the market and the community.

In this video, I break down how Halo went from being the face of Xbox to a franchise constantly trying to recover, what went wrong over the years, and why Xbox finally made such a drastic move.

Halo doesn’t need more excuses, unfinished launches, or identity crises. It needs a great campaign, great multiplayer, and a complete game that actually feels like Halo again.

Why I Won’t Buy A Digital Only PS6

Sony is ending physical disc production for new PlayStation games in 2028, and if this is the future of the PS6, I may be done with PlayStation.

Back in 2013, Sony famously mocked Xbox by showing how easy it was to share a PS4 game: simply hand the physical game to your friend. Thirteen years later, that video has aged in a way nobody could have predicted.

This isn't about hating digital games. I buy digital games too. It's about consumer choice, physical media, game ownership, used games, lending, resale and what happens when digital stops being an option and becomes the only option.

If PlayStation 6 launches into a future with no new physical games, no used copies and fewer ownership options, Sony is going to have to convince me why I should upgrade from PS5.

You DON'T Have To Buy Wolverine To Say It Looks Bad

Marvel’s Wolverine is out on PS5, and apparently some gamers think you have to spend your money and actually play it before you’re allowed to say it doesn’t appeal to you.

No. That’s backwards.

Sony and Insomniac showed the gameplay, dialogue, character designs, art direction and marketing because they want consumers to decide whether Wolverine is worth buying. If what they showed makes somebody less interested, that’s not the customer failing the game. That’s the sales pitch failing the customer.

In this video, I talk about the backlash around Marvel’s Wolverine, the “you have to play it first” argument, PlayStation fans defending the game, and why gamers need to remember that companies have to earn our time and money.

You don’t owe Wolverine a chance. Wolverine has to earn your money.

I'm NOT Buying Marvel's Wolverine... Here's Why

Marvel's Wolverine is finally here, but Sony and Insomniac haven't convinced me to spend $70 on it.

The game reportedly carried a development budget around $300 million, yet everything I've seen from Marvel's Wolverine leaves me wondering where that money went creatively. The hand-holding, repetitive gameplay complaints, strange art direction, dialogue, linear design and infamous motorcycle sequence make this feel less like a major 2026 PlayStation showcase and more like a familiar AAA formula with Wolverine added to it.

I'm not saying Marvel's Wolverine is completely broken. Some of the combat looks brutal, the technology is clearly expensive, and plenty of people are enjoying the game. My problem is simpler: none of it makes me want to spend $70.

So I want to hear from you: At $70, are you buying Marvel's Wolverine? If not, what price changes your mind?

Sony Proved Why I’m Skipping the PS6

Sony’s digital-only PlayStation future is becoming a reality. With new physical PlayStation games ending in January 2028, this is why I’m prepared to skip the PS6.

The proposed $7.85 million Sony PlayStation settlement has also renewed concerns about PlayStation Store pricing, digital game ownership and consumer choice. The antitrust lawsuit alleged that Sony reduced competition by blocking third-party retailers from selling codes for individual digital PlayStation games, causing customers to pay more.

Sony denies wrongdoing, and the court has not ruled that Sony violated antitrust law. The proposed settlement still requires final approval at a hearing scheduled for October 15, 2026.

But the settlement money isn’t the biggest issue.

Sony has already eliminated competing digital codes for individual PlayStation games. Beginning in January 2028, new PlayStation releases will no longer be produced on physical discs. That combination could leave the PlayStation Store as the only place to purchase every new game for a future PlayStation console.

No new physical copies.
No new used copies.
No competing digital storefronts.
No shopping around for a better price.

I’m not against digital games. I’m against an all-digital gaming future that removes physical ownership, price competition and consumer choice.

Sony has not officially revealed the PlayStation 6 or confirmed whether the PS6 will include a disc drive. However, with new physical PlayStation releases ending in 2028, Sony’s direction is clear.

When I first saw the LEGO PlayStation, I thought it looked incredible. Then I realized how insulting the timing was.

Sony is monetizing nostalgia for an era when PlayStation games were physical, retailers competed for our business, and buying a game gave us something we could actually hold, trade, lend, resell, and preserve.

Now Sony is removing that choice while using the original PlayStation’s disc tray as one of the main selling points for an expensive collectible.

Apparently, Sony still loves physical PlayStation—as long as the disc is fake and Sony can sell your childhood back to you for $180.

Sony Gave Xbox the Game PlayStation DESPERATELY Needed

PlayStation canceled Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT—and Xbox stepped in to save it.

Sony originally encouraged Kojima to return to action espionage, promoted PHYSINT as a major PlayStation project, and promised its full support. Then Kojima Productions unexpectedly received notice that PlayStation was canceling the game, forcing Kojima to spend three months searching for a new publisher.

Now Xbox Game Studios will publish PHYSINT and expand its relationship with Kojima Productions beyond OD into film and television.

This is a massive Xbox win and one of PlayStation’s biggest self-inflicted losses this generation. Sony spent years chasing live-service games while closing studios, canceling projects, reducing physical ownership, and weakening the identity that made PlayStation successful.

ReviewTechUSA says Donald Trump is “absolutely ruining video games” because of the White House gaming memes involving Pokémon, Halo, Call of Duty, Animal Crossing, and Tetris.

But Rich’s video quickly stops being about gaming and becomes a political meltdown about Iran, farmers, Medicaid, grocery prices, Jimmy Kimmel, and the midterms. He never proves how Donald Trump is actually ruining video games.

In this response, I break down ReviewTechUSA’s hypocrisy, his dependence on one heavily editorialized Kotaku article, his claims about stolen gaming IP, and the White House arcade games—including the controversial “Build the Wall” Tetris game.

This isn’t a debate about whether you support Trump. This is about ReviewTechUSA using video games to bait his audience into political outrage while behaving exactly like the grifters he constantly attacks.

Rich used a dishonest gaming title, presented speculation as fact, insulted viewers who might disagree with him, and monetized the outrage.

ReviewTechUSA didn’t expose the grift. ReviewTechUSA became the grift.

DreamcastGuy’s Ocarina of Time Take Is EMBARRASSING

DreamcastGuy called The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake ugly, lazy and pointless. I think he is dead wrong, and Nintendo’s first gameplay reveal gives us plenty of evidence.

The Ocarina of Time remake features rebuilt visuals, manual jumping, sprinting, free camera control, expanded dialogue, fully voiced cutscenes, a changing Castle Town and several modern gameplay improvements. Nintendo may be preserving the original story and structure, but that doesn’t make this a one-to-one remaster.

As someone who considers Ocarina of Time my favorite game ever made, this is exactly what I wanted: a modern remake that doesn’t erase the identity of the original.

We’ve also spent nearly a decade with the Breath of the Wild visual style across multiple Zelda games. This remake finally shows us another side of Hyrule, and its success could prove that traditional Zelda still deserves a future alongside Nintendo’s open-world games.

Square Enix Had ONE JOB… Put the Game on the Disc

Square Enix spent seven years selling fans a physical FF7 trilogy—then made Final Fantasy VII Revelation incomplete on disc.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth both shipped across multiple discs and preserved playable launch versions. Revelation’s PS5 and Xbox physical copies require an internet connection and additional downloaded game data before they can be played. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is a game-key card requiring at least 130GB of available storage.

That would already be disappointing, but Square Enix is also selling a $99.99 Physical Deluxe Edition and a $349.99 Collector’s Edition. There’s room for a statue, steelbook, art book, soundtrack, and promotional card—but apparently not enough discs to preserve the complete playable game.

This isn’t about hating digital games. It’s about giving customers a real choice and protecting game ownership and preservation.

Remake did it.

Rebirth did it.

There is still time for Revelation to get it right.

Sony Is Treating Gamers Like Complete Idiots

Sony says “reasonable consumers” understand that buying a digital PlayStation game does NOT mean they actually own it. So why does the PlayStation Store still say BUY NOW and CONFIRM PURCHASE?

Sony is facing a class-action lawsuit over digital game ownership and the language used on the PlayStation Store. In court, Sony argues that digital PlayStation games are licensed rather than sold — and that consumers should reasonably understand the difference.

That argument comes at the worst possible time.

PlayStation is already facing major backlash over the future of physical games, an increasingly digital PS6 ecosystem, game preservation, digital licenses, PlayStation Plus, and what consumers actually own after spending $70 or $80 on a game.

If Sony wants gamers to rely more heavily on the PlayStation Store, then consumers deserve CLEAR answers about what happens to their digital libraries.

Can your games be taken away?
What happens when a game is delisted?
What happens if licensing agreements expire?
What rights do you actually have after clicking BUY?
And if digital games aren't ownership, why shouldn't physical games remain an option?

We also discuss Sony's new customer anti-harassment policy, the separate $7.85 million PlayStation antitrust settlement, Sony's growing focus on recurring digital revenue, and Xbox's new Disc-to-Digital program that attempts to combine physical ownership with digital convenience.

I'm done pretending this is just the unavoidable future of gaming.

Digital games are convenient. I buy digital games.

The issue is CHOICE.

Physical and digital games should be able to coexist, and gamers should know exactly what they're paying for before handing these companies their money.

If Sony believes “reasonable consumers” understand what BUY really means, then this reasonable consumer understands something too:

Sony’s digital-only PlayStation strategy may be backfiring. With physical game backlash refusing to die, Xbox pushing Disc-to-Digital and game preservation, and new Gamescom rumors claiming Sony could be reconsidering its plans, physical games have suddenly become a major competitive issue.

Sony has NOT officially reversed its 2028 physical game decision, and the latest Gamescom reports remain unverified.

But if Xbox keeps supporting physical games while PlayStation moves digital-only, Sony may have handed Microsoft a massive advantage.

I’m not anti-digital.

Buy digital if you want. Buy physical if you want. Just don’t take the choice away.

With physical game backlash refusing to die, Xbox leaning into game preservation, and new Gamescom rumors claiming Sony could be reconsidering its strategy, the fight over physical games just got a lot more interesting.

Sony has not officially reversed its plan to end physical production for new PlayStation games beginning in 2028, and the latest claims coming out of Gamescom remain unverified. But reports of publisher frustration, Microsoft’s new Xbox Disc-to-Digital program, and speculation surrounding the next Xbox are putting even more pressure on PlayStation’s physical media decision.

In this video, I break down why Sony’s digital-only strategy may be backfiring, what the latest PlayStation physical games rumors actually say, why Xbox suddenly has a huge opportunity, and whether the ongoing NO DISC, NO BUY backlash is having more impact than Sony expected.

I’m not anti-digital gaming. Buy digital if you want. Buy physical if you want.

The problem is taking that choice away.

Sony hasn’t backed down yet. But if Xbox keeps supporting physical games while PlayStation moves toward digital-only, Sony may have handed its biggest competitor exactly the opening it needed.

CyberLeek spent days leaking GTA 6 footage, hyping spoilers, pushing the CYBERLEEK memecoin and claiming GTA 6 was “not ready at all.”

Then Rockstar dropped the official GTA 6 Extended Look.

The difference was ridiculous.

The official gameplay showed a much more polished Vice City with detailed NPCs, dense traffic, interiors, destruction, vehicle physics, Jason and Lucia gameplay, activities and combat.

Those leaked GTA 6 clips suddenly looked exactly like what they were: unfinished development footage.

You can still criticize Rockstar, GTA 6 pricing, digital ownership and anti-consumer decisions while admitting one thing:

The official GTA 6 gameplay showed a much more polished Vice City, detailed NPCs, dense traffic, interiors, environmental destruction, Jason and Lucia gameplay, vehicle physics, activities, combat and more. Suddenly, a lot of those unfinished GTA 6 leaks looked exactly like what they were: early development footage that was never meant to represent the finished game.

In this video, I break down why CyberLeek’s GTA 6 campaign completely backfired, the crypto and trading-volume controversy surrounding the leaks, the bizarre Rockstar protest involving actual leeks, and why criticizing CyberLeek does NOT mean blindly defending Rockstar.

I’m still against an all-digital future. I still want physical games and consumer choice. But Rockstar potentially releasing one game digitally first is not the same thing as Sony potentially removing physical options across an entire PlayStation platform.

You can criticize GTA 6 pricing, digital ownership and Rockstar while also admitting one obvious thing:

GTA 6 looks incredible, and CyberLeek lost badly.

Can’t Afford $80 GTA 6? Then GET OUT Of Gaming?!

Colin Moriarty says if you can’t afford the $80 price for GTA 6, you should “get a new hobby.” That’s not defending GTA 6 — that’s talking down to the gamers who actually pay for this industry.

I already bought GTA 6 and I’m excited as hell to play it. But being able to afford an $80 game and believing an $80 game is worth the money are two completely different things.

In this video, I call out Colin Moriarty’s GTA 6 take and explain why telling gamers to leave the hobby over the price of Grand Theft Auto VI is so ridiculously out of touch.

This conversation is also much bigger than one comment.

Gamers are watching AAA game prices rise, premium editions climb past $100, physical media disappear, digital licensing become more common, and consumer ownership continue to change. GTA 6 could absolutely end up being worth every penny of its $79.99 price — but Rockstar still has to earn that money.

Consumers are allowed to question value.

You can love GTA 6 and still question $80 games.

You can afford GTA 6 and still decide it isn’t worth $80.

You can wait for a sale and still be a gamer.

And you definitely don’t need somebody in gaming media deciding whether your bank account qualifies you for the hobby.

PlayStation's live-service strategy just took another hit. Horizon Hunters Gathering is reportedly being reworked after negative playtest feedback while Horizon 3 remains years away.

After Concord, Marathon, canceled PlayStation projects and years of chasing live-service games, Sony has me seriously questioning the PS5 generation and why I should care about PS6.

In this video, I go off on Sony's obsession with live-service games and what I think it has cost PlayStation this generation.

Horizon Hunters Gathering is the latest example. Instead of Horizon 3 being the priority, most of Guerrilla Games reportedly spent years focused on this multiplayer project, only for Sony to now rethink the live-service direction.

Then there's Concord. Marathon. The canceled Last of Us Online project. Other PlayStation live-service games that were canceled or reworked. All while longtime PlayStation franchises sit unused and PS5 owners continue waiting for the kind of first-party exclusives that once defined the brand.

And that's where my bigger problem with Sony comes in.

I'm not anti-multiplayer. I'm not anti-digital. I'm not automatically against live-service games.

I'm against companies chasing recurring revenue at the expense of consumer choice and the games their existing audience actually wants.

With Sony pushing harder toward digital gaming and people already talking about PlayStation 6, I think it's fair to ask:

Why should gamers rush to buy a PS6 when Sony still hasn't convinced everyone that it got everything it could out of the PS5 generation?

GTA 6 Was LEAKED Over The All-Digital Future

GTA 6 was allegedly leaked as a protest against the all-digital future of gaming and the loss of physical ownership.
The leaker says they won’t stop until Rockstar responds, turning this into a much bigger fight over gamer rights, digital preorders, and what we actually own.

New GTA 6 gameplay and alleged map material surfaced online, but the most interesting part of this story isn’t the footage itself. It’s WHY the person claiming responsibility says they leaked it.

Cyberleek has tied the leaks to frustration over GTA 6 launching without a traditional physical disc, digital preorders, preservation, and the gaming industry’s continued move toward digital-only distribution.

I already bought GTA 6 and I’m still incredibly excited to play it. This isn’t about hating Rockstar or being anti-digital. I buy digital games all the time.

The problem is when digital stops being a choice and becomes the ONLY choice.

Sony apparently found another way to make money from PlayStation gamers. Now Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking to expand its advertising business with brands outside of gaming — and gamers have every reason to question where this is going.

After the push toward digital games, rising prices, PlayStation Plus, live-service monetization and everything else gamers already pay for, does PlayStation really need another revenue stream aimed at its own customers?

Sony has NOT officially announced commercial breaks inside PS5 games, but the company is hiring to grow PlayStation's advertising business, including new brand partnerships and data-driven advertising opportunities.

In this video, I break down what Sony is actually doing, what the job listing says, why this should get the attention of PlayStation fans, and why gamers shouldn't wait until intrusive advertising becomes normalized before asking questions.

Halo Needs To Be Taken Away From Halo Studios

Halo Campaign Evolved was supposed to be the comeback Halo needed, but this remake may have exposed an even bigger problem: Halo Studios itself.

After playing it myself, the sales estimates, layoffs, technical problems and fan backlash have me wondering if Xbox needs to take Halo away from Halo Studios.

Halo Campaign Evolved brought Master Chief back with a full remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, launching across Xbox, PC and PS5 while also being available through Game Pass. But instead of feeling like the clean victory Halo desperately needed, the conversation has quickly shifted to Halo Campaign Evolved sales, Halo Studios layoffs, development problems, bugs, creative decisions and growing frustration from longtime Halo fans.

I played Halo Campaign Evolved myself and came away underwhelmed. In this video, I break down the early sales estimates, the Game Pass argument, the Halo remake’s reception, the missing classic multiplayer experience, the problems surrounding Halo Studios and why I believe the studio itself may be the biggest thing holding the Halo franchise back.

Halo fans have spent years asking Microsoft and Xbox to bring the franchise back to what made Halo great. Campaign Evolved should have been the easiest opportunity imaginable. Instead, we’re once again asking what went wrong and whether Halo Studios can really be trusted with the future of Master Chief.

First PlayStation came under fire over the future of physical games. Now Nintendo has its own game ownership problem after Switch players lost access to a game they paid for.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite Cloud Version is no longer playable on Nintendo Switch after its cloud service shut down. Players who purchased the game can no longer access it, and there’s no offline version available to those Switch owners.

And this goes way beyond one game.

With PlayStation moving away from physical game releases, Xbox expanding further into digital libraries and cloud gaming, and more Nintendo Switch cloud games facing shutdowns, gamers are asking a pretty simple question: what do we actually own anymore?
